Two Spanish airlines, among the most punctual in the world

Iberia received three awards in the annual punctuality report of FlightGlobal Incorporated FlightStats, leader in the provision of aviation and air travel data.

Iberia was recognized for the second year in a row as the most punctual international network airline in the world (flights marketed and operated by Iberia and its partners) with 88.97% of flights operating on time.

The Spanish carrier was ahead of the Japanese airlines JAL, with a punctuality of 86.09%, and ANA, with a punctuality of 84.51%, followed by Delta, Qatar Airways, Alitalia, Qantas, SAS, United Airlines and TAM. According to FlightGlobal, Iberia is the most punctual airline but it is worth noting that it also operates one of the smallest networks among the airlines considered, with 159,610 flights operated versus Delta Airlines’ 1.9 million flights. All airlines included in the study reached punctuality rates above 80%.

Iberia was also recognized as the most punctual airline in Europe, with 89.54% of its flights to this region on time.

Iberia Express was recognised as the most punctual low-cost airline in the world, with 91,75% of its flights operating on time. The Iberia subsidiary beats Air Baltic, with an average punctuality of 82,06 %; Azul (84,46 %), GOL (82,96 %), Sky (82,06 %), Jet2.com (81,81 %), Germanwings (81,45 %), Vueling (80,59 %), Ryanair (80,02 %) and Spirit Airlines (79,78 %). Once again, Iberia Express does not operate as many flights as the other airlines included in the study (with 32,920 flights vs Ryanair’s 717,364 operations), but it is also the only one exceeding the 90% on-time mark. This is the fourth consecutive year that the Spanish low-cost carrier occupies the first spot in the world ranking.
